Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
- Support clinical staff by preparing patients for procedures, helping with medical documentation, and ensuring proper aseptic techniques are followed.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other memory impairments in memory care or assisted living environments.
- Administer medications under supervision, including catheter care and basic life support when necessary.
- Operate patient lifts such as Hoyer lifts safely to prevent injury during transfers or repositioning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute care settings like ICU, emergency departments, or Level I trauma centers to deliver timely patient service and support.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and ensure accurate medical records management.
- Support patients in home care or outpatient clinics by providing compassionate caregiving tailored to individual needs.
- Assist with infection control practices during infectious disease care or in sterile environments such as operating rooms or PICUs.
Skills
- Proven experience working in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes or assisted living communities.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms for medical documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care.
- Experience in specialized areas including hospice care, behavioral health, geriatrics, pediatrics, or post-acute care environments.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy procedures and manage DME (Durable Medical Equipment) when necessary.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and confidentiality protocols within hospital medicine or urgent care settings.
- Competence in vital signs measurement and basic life support certification to respond effectively during emergencies.
