A day at Little Linguists begins with a 7am shift with a heathy and hearty breakfast for our classes and the morning staff. The chef is responsible for providing 3 meals each day. Our food is served family style, farm-to-school with high quality ingredients daily from a prepared weekly menu created by the chef. Our chef is responsible for a healthy lunch and delicious snack, accommodating for vegan students as needed. We are nut-free; our main proteins are chicken, turkey, and tofu.
The chef creates an environment of comfort and wellness in the kitchen, as well as welcoming new ideas and flavors. The chef works 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) to accomplish the culinary goals and objectives of the food program at Little Linguists and ensure that all opening duties are completed to state standards.
This is primarily a position for the food preparation/cook, menu/activity plan. This is secondarily a cleaning, stocking, inventory, and dishwashing position.
This is a 7am to 4pm hourly pay position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Make the menu: Due on Wednesday prior to the week with updates reflecting the inventory.
- Ensure that weekly Menu are current and posted on Monday morning for the week in the front and classrooms, and follow the menu to cook accordingly.
- Be responsible for all kichen based inventory, as well as the coffee bar inventory. Please check with Admin for general school inventory that may need to be added to the shopping list. Inventory needs to be submitted on Thursday prior to the week to the owner.
- Be familiar with both regular and vegan recipes
- Develop new menu items, test and write recipes. Constantly look into developing new recipes, menu ideas.
- Ensure that excess items are utilized efficiently.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
- Assist in the return of washed dishes, pots, and pans to their proper storage area.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Maintain and strictly abide by State sanitation/Health regulations and overall operation requirements.
- Maintain proper storage procedures as specified by Health Department/BFTS
- Be highly detailed in Children’s allergies
- Make inventory, receive and stock deliveries of food and supplies. Be aware of any shortages and make arrangements/inventory list before the item runs out.
- Label and store food in a manner that meets NPS public health standards.
- Label and store non-food items
- Wash dishes, pots, pans.
- Daily delivery of food to the classrooms
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Catering activity for special school events
