Patient Access Representative II – Emergency Department
Schedule: 5x8 Nights
Shift: 6:00 PM–2:30 AM
Additional Flexibility: Must be flexible to work the 11:00 PM shift when needed
Weekends: Required / Included
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Patient Access Representative II to support a fast-paced Emergency Department (ED). This position is responsible for obtaining and verifying patient information, completing registration and scheduling activities, and assisting with insurance authorization and eligibility requirements for inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic services.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a busy hospital or Emergency Department setting and be comfortable working in a high-volume environment with changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Register patients and obtain accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information.
- Secure and provide appropriate information to patients, families, and funding sources.
- Schedule inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic services as needed.
- Obtain and process insurance authorizations and verify patient eligibility.
- Apply knowledge of health insurance carriers, managed care plans, and reimbursement processes.
- Assist with registration, billing, claims payment, and related patient access functions.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, healthcare providers, and internal departments.
- Establish rapport with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
- Enter and maintain patient information accurately in electronic systems.
- Utilize Epic and other computer-based systems for registration and patient access functions.
- Perform data entry and maintain productivity and accuracy standards.
- Apply general knowledge of medical terminology to patient access activities.
- Work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced Emergency Department environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in a healthcare setting OR 1 year of experience in a specific departmental function or call center environment.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced hospital or Emergency Department setting strongly required.
- Emergency Department experience is highly preferred.
- General knowledge of managed care health plans.
- Knowledge of scheduling, registration, billing, and/or claims payment processes.
- Knowledge of insurance verification, authorization, and eligibility requirements.
- General knowledge of medical terminology or at least 6 months of demonstrated healthcare work experience.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to perform data entry accurately.
- Experience with or knowledge of Epic preferred/required for patient access functions.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy Emergency Department.
Schedule Requirements
- 5 shifts per week, 8 hours per shift
- 6:00 PM–2:30 AM
- Must be flexible to work the 11:00 PM shift when needed.
- Weekends are included in the schedule.
- Candidates must be flexible with scheduling due to the high-volume nature of the Emergency Department.
- Due to department needs, candidates with limited availability or an abundance of requested time off (RTO) may not be suitable for this position.

· Copy of diploma for highest level of completed education.
· Two manager/supervisor references who you have worked with in the last two years.
· Upcoming requested time off for the duration of the contract.

· Documentation of Covid vaccination or medical/religious exemption.
