Policy and Capital Strategist
The New Mexico Finance Authority (NMFA) in Santa Fe is seeking qualified candidates for a Policy and Capital Strategist position that will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position performs technical and professional duties related to the operation of the Venture Capital Program, and comprehensive program and policy development for NMFA programs. The Policy and Capital Strategist works closely with NMFA’s external stakeholders including New Mexico government offices, elected officials, legislative committees, sector experts, and private sector collaborators to advance existing and new policy frameworks for NMFA financing programs. The Policy and Capital Strategist directs the development of NMFA financing programs, including the definition of mission, targeted impact, eligible applicants, and capital and risk parameters and completes necessary statute changes and rules to support the development of programs. The position collaborates closely with NMFA program teams, compliance, and legal counsel to design plans and procedures to effectively operationalize, execute and monitor NMFA funding mandates
NMFA is a government instrumentality whose mission is to be New Mexico’s partner in building economic prosperity and stronger communities. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in portfolio management, strategy development, capital markets including private equity, as well as economic issues impacting local government operations. Creative problem solving and the ability to think strategically to map insights into business challenges are highly desired.
The ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences, meet competing deadlines, and communicate effectively with public officials, directors, and the general public is required. An advanced degree (MA/MS/MBA) and 12 years of experience in fund accounting and/or investment banking, five years of which should be in local or state government, or an equivalent combination is required. This position also requires the ability to build relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
