Overview
To prepare nutritious, appetizing and attractive meals, while working as a team with other Food Services members to provide smooth, efficient and safe operation of the kitchen area. All policies and procedures of Villa Serena Retirement Living must be followed, including menus and portion-control requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare meals following Villa Serena Retirement Living menus and recipes
- Follow safe food-handling procedures.
- Ensure food, needed supplies and appropriate personnel are available for the meal planned.
- Serve nutritious food attractively garnished in a punctual manner.
- Make sure you and the staff follow procedures for thawing out meat, covering, labeling, dating and storing food in a timely manner.
- Assist with menu planning and ingredient sourcing to ensure freshness and quality
- Handle food safely, adhering to all health and safety regulations
- Perform food preparation tasks including chopping, cooking, plating, and portioning
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas, following sanitation protocols
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives and other culinary tools
- Oversee Facility Food Service staff and kitchen operation in the absence of the Facility Executive Chef or Sous Chef
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during busy periods
Qualifications
- Able to understand and speak English
- Must be 18 years of age. Two (2) years' experience in institutional or full-service restaurant cooking.
- Ability to read and prepare recipes in careful detail as provided by Villa Serena Retirement Living.
- Knowledge of and ability to conform to Food Service sanitation practices.
- Ability to work with staff and residents in resolving food service problems.
- Maintain food handlers permit as necessary to fulfill state requirements. Work in this position for 90-day probationary period.
- Experience in serving senior citizens is preferred
- Ability to work in a team setting and be a team player with commitment and respect for all individuals
- Ability to fill any gaps when short on personnel including Cook, Dishwasher and Prep Cook
- Treat all employee's professionally and equally with no preference
- Ability to keep all business and operations information confidential. Possess organizational skills
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet all department deadlines.
- Ability to follow and adhere to policies, procedures and standards
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
