Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring all tools are sterilized according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures including X-ray imaging, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using dental x-ray equipment and 3D scanners while maintaining proper aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Provide patient care by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, and ensuring comfort throughout treatment.
- Support patient management software to schedule appointments, update medical documentation, and facilitate effective patient flow.
- Maintain dental instrument processing routines and sterilization procedures to uphold infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with the dental team in four-handed dentistry practices to optimize efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Assist with dental equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance to ensure smooth clinical operations.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices and post-treatment instructions tailored to their needs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting; experience in pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental assisting techniques.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with patient management software is preferred.
- Skilled in dental x-ray procedures and operation of dental imaging equipment including 3D scanners.
- Strong understanding of infection control protocols including dental sterilization procedures and healthcare infection prevention standards.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with competence in four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient management and team collaboration.
- Certification in X-ray operation (if applicable) and ongoing commitment to continuing education in general dentistry practices.
