Caregiver / Personal Care Aide – Dementia Care
Job Overview
We are seeking a kind, compassionate, dependable, and attentive Caregiver/Personal Care Aide to provide one-on-one care for an 83-year-old woman living with dementia.
This is an opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys helping seniors and wants to make a meaningful difference through companionship, personal care, conversation, memory activities and everyday moments of connection.
The ideal caregiver will be patient, positive, trustworthy, and fully engaged with the client throughout the shift. Experience with dementia or special needs is a plus, but not required. We are looking for someone with the right heart and willingness to learn.
This position is offered through a professional caregiving agency that provides training and support toward caregiver certification at no cost to the caregiver.
Schedule
Guaranteed Weekly Shift
- Weekend Overnight Shift: totaling 36 hours
- Saturday: 5:00 AM – Sunday: 5:00 PM
Additional Coverage Hours — As Needed
Additional hours are available only when another caregiver calls out and a shift needs to be covered. The caregiver will be contacted to determine availability to cover the shift.
Potential coverage shifts include:
- Monday–Friday: 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Monday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Additional coverage hours are not guaranteed.
Responsibilities
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, mobility support and personal care.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to ensure health stability.
- Support client with medication administration following prescribed protocols and safety guidelines as directed by the care plan.
- Assist with standing and walking using a walker.
- Provide attentive supervision and help maintain a safe environment.
- Provide companionship and meaningful interaction throughout the shift.
- Take the client on wheelchair walks when weather permits.
- Participate in memory activities, games, conversation, and other fun and engaging activities.
- Be patient and attentive when communicating with the client. Her speech clarity is intermittent, and she is currently receiving speech therapy.
- Follow established routines and care instructions.
- Keep the client's personal care area, chair, and meal tray area neat and clean to ensure infection control.
- Clean up after yourself and maintain a tidy care environment.
Meals are pre-prepared. No laundry or heavy housecleaning is required. The caregiver's primary responsibility is caring for and engaging with the client.
Qualifications & Skills
- Compassionate, kind, patient, and dependable.
- Attentive and fully engaged while on duty.
- Enjoys spending time with seniors and has a positive, fun, and engaging personality.
- Comfortable participating in memory activities and conversation.
- Experience with dementia, Alzheimer's, special needs, or senior care is a plus, but not required.
- Willingness to learn and follow the client's care plan.
- Ability to provide respectful assistance with personal care and mobility.
- Ability to perform safe patient lifting practices and heavy lifting when required.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Good communication skills.
- References required.
