Job Summary
The Project Engineer is an entry-level position that serves to supports the project team in field operations, technical coordination, and construction documentation. This role provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in construction, offering hands-on experience in project execution. Reporting to the Project Manager and Superintendent, the Field Engineer plays a critical role in supporting daily site activities and ensuring the project runs efficiently, safely, and according to plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Support preconstruction activities, including attendance at owner and internal kickoff meetings, completion of the job start-up checklist, and preparation of vendor purchase orders and subcontracts.
- Assist with field layout, daily reporting, and tracking of materials and quantities installed.
- Monitor and review field crew timecards and production quantities daily.
- Collect field tickets, receipts, and review vendor invoices; verify accuracy of quantities, costs, and account coding.
- Maintain and update project documents including drawings, logs, RFIs, submittals, and schedules.
- Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with coordination of field operations, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Assist with supervising subcontractors when they are on site; ensure work is progressing according to schedule and specifications.
- Track subcontractor quantities completed and assist in the preparation and review of subcontractor pay applications.
- Ensure field work aligns with contract plans, specifications, and project timelines.
- Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings and assist with enforcement of safety policies on site.
- Support site logistics including setup and maintenance of traffic control, erosion control, and SWPPP measures.
- Serve as a liaison to field crews, ensuring crews have necessary tools, materials, and information.
- Learn to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and related documents.
- Track material deliveries and usage; perform quantity take-offs for tracking and procurement support.
- Attend project meetings and assist with meeting documentation and follow-up tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred (or currently working toward degree).
- Internship or prior field experience in construction (preferred but not required).
- Strong interest in building a long-term career in construction.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of construction plans and project documentation.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $66,202.34 - $79,727.43 per year
