- Fridays are used as a makeup day when weather or other unexpected events occur to prevent us from working during the week, or for overtime.

This is a physically demanding, labor-intensive job. We are looking for individuals who are:
- Reliable and Dedicated: Arrive on time each day for a 6:00 AM start in York, SC.
- Team-Oriented: Work effectively and respectfully with your crew, problem solve and work as a team to complete projects.
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, including hot, cold, and sometimes even in rain or snow if repairs or leak investigations are necessary.
- Able to lift 50+ pounds and handle strenuous outdoor labor.
- Ability to Learn: We are looking for candidates with at least 1-2 years of construction, roofing, low slope roofing, or outdoor labor experience who are able to pick up quickly on the unique job tasks required to complete projects at a Nuclear Facility.
- Detail-Oriented: Able to pay close attention to safety procedures and the high-quality workmanship required to install the specific low-slope roofs required for Nuclear Facilities. Must be able to follow instructions from the Superintendent / Foreman but also work independently when needed and know what to do without being told.
***Job Requirements / Qualifications***
- At least 1 year minimum experience working in construction, low slope roofing, or outdoor labor work.
- Ability to use email / computer to navigate the hiring process.
- Ability to pass Random Drug Tests throughout course of Employment.
- Ability to be honest and upfront about criminal and job history to pass the required Background Checks (PHQ). Candidates with a criminal history are not immediately disqualified, it is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you have any PENDING CHARGES, you are not encouraged to apply.
- Ability to bend, squat, lay, and stand in uncomfortable positions for long periods of time, sometimes in extreme temperatures throughout the year.
- Ability to rip, pull, tear, cut, saw, drill, glue roofing material and remove roofing debris.
- Ability to use/learn to use power tools and other roofing equipment.
- Ability to install / learn to install correct roofing system, as specified on the engineer’s drawings and specifications.
- Ability to perform / learn to perform detail work such as metal installation, hatch installation, handrail installation, painting, liquid flashing, and all other low-slope roofing system installation skills
- Ability to / willing to operate / learn to operate Forklifts, Manlifts, Boomlifts, Telescopic Handlers, and other vehicles related to material handling
- Ability to learn, understand and implement all Safety Procedures given by the Nuclear Facility while navigating and performing work around the plant.
- Attention to detail and good communication skills – communicate with crew and Superintendent / Foreman regarding day-to day tasks, or materials and tools needed to perform job efficiently and safely.
- Ability to attend 1-week Paid Training Course in Kings Mountain, NC where employee will have to pass proctored written exams related to Nuclear Safety and relevant job site requirements with an 80% or above. Tests will be retaken yearly to maintain access.
- Understand that at any point while employee holds a Nuclear Badge, he/she must not violate any of the safety related material as learned in the Kings Mountain Training, such as wearing correct PPE, safety procedures while working, drug / alcohol / weapon policy, and cannot get in criminal trouble throughout the course of employment.
- Must be willing to also commute & work at the Huntersville, NC plant if necessary
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds when needed.
- Valid Driver's License & Transportation: A valid driver's license is required, along with reliable transportation to the York, SC site (and potentially Huntersville, NC if needed).
- U.S. Citizen or Work Visa: Must be a U.S. Citizen or hold a current U.S. work visa.
***Key Steps / Requirements of Hiring Process***
Due to the high-security nature of the job site at the Nuclear Facility, all candidates must successfully complete the following before employment can begin:
· * Background Check: You must pass an extensive background check with a clean recent criminal history (NO PENDING CHARGES). This includes providing three reliable personal references. A review of previous employment and education may also be done for verification purposes and you must be able to provide details, proof and a contact reference for previous employers / education. The candidate will be extensively reviewed by the Nuclear Facility’s background verifier of choice, which will all be based on a PHQ (Personal History Questionnaire) that the candidate must fill out before starting training. Information that is entered on the PHQ must be honest and accurate. Withholding or being dishonest about any information about criminal, job, or education history will immediately disqualify the candidate from receiving their badge.
· * Drug & Alcohol Screening: You must pass an initial drug screening and be willing to undergo regular, random drug and alcohol tests throughout the course of employment.
· * Paid Training & Badging: Successfully complete a one-week paid training program at the Kings Mountain Training Facility and pass all proctored tests (80% or higher) and a psychological evaluation to receive your nuclear facility badge. Testing will include information on Nuclear Safety and procedures / training specific to the job site. The Candidate may also undergo Material Handling Equipment Training / Certifications (Forklift, Manlift, Boom lift) and other applicable courses as it relates to the work. All procedures and information learned during this 1-week training will have to be followed throughout the course of your employment while performing work.
· * Physical Ability: Must be in excellent physical condition and prepared for strenuous outdoor work, including high summer temperatures and frigid winter conditions.
· * Fluent English: Strong English and reading comprehension skills are mandatory to pass the required training and safety tests. The training material and tests are in English. Reading comprehension skills are a must in order to be able to pass the proctored exams. Most of the tests are done using a computer, with assistance and guidance from proctors when needed.
We are hiring for the York, SC position, however we are asking candidates be aware that they may be transferred to the Huntersville, NC Nuclear Facility as needed.
