Aquatic Resources Management LLC is an environmental consulting firm that conducts aquatic biological surveys across KY, WV, VA, and TN. We collect, identify, and report on fish and aquatic macroinvertebrate communities for water-quality assessments, permitting, restoration, and compliance. We will match title, pay, and responsibility to experience.
What you will do
- Plan and conduct field surveys of fish and aquatic macroinvertebrates in streams, rivers, and related habitats across the four-state region.
- Use standard gear and protocols (backpack electrofishing, seines, kick nets, Surber/Hess samplers, and related methods) consistent with state and federal guidance.
- Identify organisms in the field and lab to the level the project requires (typically family–species for fish; family–genus/species for macroinvertebrates).
- Enter, QA/QC, and analyze biological data; calculate community metrics and interpret results against standards and reference conditions.
- Prepare technical reports, tables, maps, and client deliverables.
- Maintain equipment, follow safety procedures, and work as part of a small field crew, including overnight travel in survey season.
- Senior staff will also lead crews, review junior work, support proposals, and serve as a technical contact with clients and agencies.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, fisheries, aquatic ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field. Graduate degrees are welcome and will factor into level placement.
- Demonstrated understanding of collecting aquatic invertebrates and fish, plus identification and reporting of those organisms.
- Ability to work in streams and remote terrain, in variable weather, and to travel throughout KY, WV, VA, and TN.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong writing skills and attention to data quality.
Preferred (these drive level and pay)
- Hands-on backpack electrofishing, seining, and standardized macroinvertebrate sampling in the Appalachian / Mid-Atlantic region.
- Taxonomic skill with fishes and/or aquatic macros of the Ohio and Tennessee River drainages.
- Familiarity with KY DOW, WV DEP, VA DEQ, and TDEC biomonitoring protocols and CWA / 401–404 biological assessments.
- Technical report writing and field-data management (Excel/Access; GIS a plus).
- SFS/NABS taxonomic certification, first aid/CPR, or electrofishing safety training.
Pay: $35,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
