Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese-inspired dishes with precision and artistry
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene in all food preparation areas
- Develop new sushi recipes and presentation styles to keep menus exciting and innovative
- Manage ingredient inventory, ensuring freshness and proper storage of seafood and other perishables
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during busy hours
- Educate team members on sushi techniques, presentation, and safety protocols
- Uphold consistent quality control by tasting dishes and adjusting as needed for flavor and appearance
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar culinary role specializing in Japanese cuisine
- Strong knowledge of sushi preparation techniques, knife skills, and ingredient handling
- Ability to develop creative sushi menus through culinary innovation and presentation skills
- Excellent classroom management skills for training junior staff or apprentices in sushi techniques
- Experience working with children or adults in educational settings is a plus for team collaboration roles
- Culinary experience that includes working with seafood, rice preparation, and garnishing
- Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices in a professional kitchen environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Passion for culinary arts, especially in the realm of Asian cuisine and sushi craftsmanship
