Join our dedicated team as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and aging-related conditions to live fulfilling, independent lives. As a DSP, you will be a trusted advocate and caregiver, fostering independence while ensuring safety and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing for changes in condition, and reporting findings to healthcare teams.
- Support medication administration in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to safety protocols.
- Prepare nutritious meals aligned with dietary needs and assist with meal consumption to promote proper nutrition.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs, including dementia care, Alzheimer's care, autism support, and memory care strategies.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties such as cleaning resident areas and assisting with laundry.
- Document observations, incidents, and care activities thoroughly while respecting residents’ privacy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, families, and team members to deliver comprehensive home health or long-term care services.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, medication administration, CPR/First Aid certification, and manual handling procedures.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting while demonstrating patience, compassion, and strong communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, assist with transfers using Hoyer lifts or other equipment, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are advantageous for community-based support roles.
