About the Role
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for providing physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This includes implementing individualized treatment plans for patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, or functional impairments; assisting patients with therapeutic exercises, functional mobility training, and physical interventions to improve strength, mobility, balance, and overall functional independence; and educating patients and families on safe movement techniques, injury prevention, and use of assistive devices.
The Physical Therapist Assistant also observes and documents patient responses to treatment, reports progress and concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist, maintains accurate clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and facility standards, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program
- Current and valid Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the state of practice
- BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- At least 1 year in pediatric occupational therapy experience preferred (home health or early intervention a plus)
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto liability insurance
- Comfortable working independently in home environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist
- Implement individualized treatment plans for patients with a variety of physical and functional impairments
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, mobility training, and functional activities
- Educate patients and families on safe movement, injury prevention, and use of assistive devices
- Observe, document, and report patient progress and responses to treatment
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory standards
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to support quality patient care
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and move patients or equipment up to 50 lbs with assistance
- Manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity for patient care
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
