How you’ll contribute
Financial Counselors provide guidance to patients regarding financial responsibilities that result from the acceptance of the facility’s services. Counselor assesses patients’ financial ability, advises patients on insurance benefits, explains financial liability, collects payment, identifies funding sources and resolves any confusion the patient may have about their financial obligations to the facility. The counselor is responsible for the accurate and timely verification of insurance benefits, to include:
contacting patients and/or guardians to obtain additional insurance information, researching and maintaining an ongoing collective knowledge of HMO, PPO, Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance reimbursement rates and criteria, evaluating plans to calculate and estimate of the patient’s out of pocket charges, collecting any co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, etc. and exploring patient’s financial circumstances to ensure fair and reasonable repayment terms.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle healthy stress in a positive manner

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments

Patiently, clearly, and accurately advises patient of financial obligations

Experience in the following platforms, a plus: Medik, Meditech, Clover, EPIC, UHC, Inovolon, BCBS, Medicaid/Medicare, Equifax, KP, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft email, Microsoft Bookings, Availity, Excel, Oracle

Qualifications and requirements

Exceptional customer service and telephone skills a must
-
Familiarity/knowledge of crisis intervention and at-risk populations struggling with crisis & substance use disorders

High school diploma required; advanced education preferred

Proficient in use of software programs and exposure to EHR systems preferred

Minimum of one year of business, healthcare, or Insurance related experience

PPI / HIPPA knowledge preferred

Comfortable with at-risk populations and talking over financial responsibility regarding PHP/IOP/IP treatment

Follow auditing procedures and documentation of patient records

CPR & First Aide/Universal Precautions (or ability to receive through company within 30 days)
