Position Overview
Trinity Episcopal Church seeks a reliable, self-motivated Sexton to care for church buildings and grounds. This role ensures facilities remain clean, secure, and welcoming for Sunday services, parish events, and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Facility Upkeep
- General cleaning of high use areas and check/spot-clean between Sunday services.
- Occassional cleaning of low use areas.
- Maintain the kitchen, dining hall, parlor, hallways, and stairwells; launder linens as needed.
- Keep church entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas free of debris and litter.
Sunday Operations & Building Security
- Unlock and lock facility doors and parking gates according to service schedules.
- Maintain coffee and narthex areas during Sunday morning hours.
- Provide winter ground care, including salting steps and walkways during snow/ice events.
Basic Maintenance & Operations
- Perform routine walkthroughs to log needed repairs and complete basic fix-it tasks.
- Perform light seasonal yard work (watering plants, clearing leaves near outdoor equipment).
- Track cleaning and restroom supplies and report ordering needs to the Parish Administrator.
- Notify leadership when projects require professional contractors (plumbing, electrical, etc.).
Schedules & Expectations
- Hours: 10 to 15 hours per week, combining mid-week flexible cleaning hours with required Sunday morning availability.
- Reports To: Rector (senior clergy)
Qualifications
- Prior custodial, basic maintenance, or groundskeeping experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and physical ability to perform lifting, sweeping, and stair climbing.
- Dependable transportation and punctual attendance, especially for Sunday obligations.
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 15.0 per week
