Job Summary
Fuqua School is seeking a passionate and dedicated 4th Grade Teacher to join our close-knit, student-centered community in Farmville, Virginia. With small class sizes and a strong emphasis on relationships, this role offers the opportunity to truly know each student and support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
As a 4th Grade Teacher at Fuqua, you will create a warm and engaging classroom environment where curiosity is encouraged, confidence is built, and a love of learning is nurtured. You will play a key role in helping students develop foundational skills in literacy and mathematics while fostering independence, critical thinking, and strong character.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with curriculum standards in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture that reflects Fuqua’s values of respect, kindness, and community
- Differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of each student, supported by small class sizes and individualized attention
- Monitor and assess student progress through a variety of methods, using data to inform instruction and support growth
- Provide additional support and intervention for students as needed, including collaboration with families and support staff
- Integrate technology and hands-on learning experiences to enhance student engagement
- Communicate regularly with families, building strong partnerships that support student success
- Collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and departments to strengthen curriculum and student outcomes
- Participate actively in school life, including events, traditions, and community-building activities
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience teaching elementary students, preferably at the 3rd grade level
- Strong understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education
- Ability to create a structured yet nurturing classroom environment
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Experience with differentiated instruction and supporting diverse learners, including students with varying academic and social-emotional needs
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration
- Enthusiasm for contributing to a small school community where flexibility and teamwork are essential
