Position Summary
The Transportation Aide supports the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and school-related activities. Working alongside the school bus driver, the Transportation Aide helps maintain student safety, provides supervision during transit, assists students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, and promotes a positive transportation experience for all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist students safely boarding and exiting school buses or other school vehicles.
- Monitor student behavior and maintain a safe, orderly environment during transportation.
- Support students with special needs, including providing physical assistance when appropriate and authorized.
- Ensure students remain seated and follow transportation safety procedures.
- Conduct student headcounts and verify student attendance during routes.
- Assist in emergency evacuations and safety drills as directed.
- Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, safety, or health to the Transportation Coordinator and school administration.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of school vehicles.
- Accompany students on field trips and extracurricular transportation as needed.
- Follow all school policies, transportation regulations, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities or special needs is highly desirable.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with drivers, school staff, students, and families.
- Must successfully pass all required background checks and employment screenings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist students during boarding and exiting.
- Ability to lift, transfer, or assist students when required and appropriately trained.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Schedule
- 6:30am - 8:00am and 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
