The Undergraduate Biology Office plays an important role at KU, serving faculty, staff, and students in the Undergraduate Biology Program as well as in the Department of Molecular Biosciences and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Successful candidates will demonstrate superior customer service, conduct, and dedication, and a proactive, welcoming attitude towards students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the office.
60% - Reception and Visitor Management-
Greet visitors, answer and direct telephone calls, and schedule appointments in a professional and courteous manner.
10% - Mail Distribution-
Sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
10% - Building Key Management-
Maintain accountability for building keys and assist with key check-out procedures.
10% - Document Reproduction Services
- Perform photocopying and related document preparation tasks as needed.
5% - Workspace Organization and Supply Maintenance-
Stock supplies and maintain organization of the front desk and copy room while ensuring the reception area remains clean and presentable.
5% - Campus Errands and Deliveries-
Complete campus-related errands and deliveries in support of departmental operations.
- Non-Biology-Major, students majoring in biochemistry; biology; ecology, evolution, and organismal biology; biology; microbiology; and molecular, cellular, and developmental biology are not eligible to apply.

Strong verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
