American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital in Bismarck, ND, performing open heart and cardiovascular cases.

Acute care hospital CVOR unit with 2 cardiovascular OR suites
-
Cardiothoracic and vascular patient population with 1–3 cases per day depending on complexity
-
Common cases include open hearts (CABG, valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, and Impella 5.5

Specialized equipment includes Stryker towers, Impella 5.5, and ECMO support

Day shift hours are 0645–1515 Monday–Friday, with early 0600 start required for open heart case prep when notified the day prior
-
Weeknight call required 3–4 times per week from 1515–0645
-
Weekend call required every other to every third weekend, Friday 1515 through Monday 0645
-
Rotating holiday coverage is required
-
15-minute call response time required; 8-hour post-call reprieve and a sleep room are available

Floating to other OR specialties (ortho or general) may be required as second scrub when CV volumes are low

Floating to the floor as a 1:1 patient sitter may be required to supplement hours during low-volume periods

Minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience required

Experience with open heart cases including CABG and valve procedures required

Ability to first scrub independently is required

Willingness to cross-train into general and ortho OR specialties when CV volumes are low

BLS certification required
-
CST via NBSTSA or NCCT certification required
-
ND UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel) certification required

License required if applicable

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Orientation consists of 4–5 days of unit-based orientation plus 2 buddy call shifts, with flexibility based on recent open heart experience

Scrubs are provided by the facility

Charge nurse coverage is available for all shifts 7a–11p Monday–Friday and 7a–7p on weekends; manager is on-site until 4p Monday–Friday

Schedule is created by the CV team lead

The CVOR team is described as having a family-like atmosphere

RTO requests of 7 or fewer days for the contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved

A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
