Plant Manager – Manufacturing Operations
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Plant Manager to lead operations at our precision tubing manufacturing facility serving the medical device industry. This is a leadership opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing professional who has progressed from the production floor into management and understands how to lead teams while driving operational excellence.
The Plant Manager will oversee production, quality, safety, maintenance, and workforce development while ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with ISO and GMP standards.
This role requires a leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is passionate about developing people, improving processes, and building high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Operations Leadership
- Oversee daily operations of a precision metal tubing manufacturing plant
- Manage multiple secondary process production lines
- Ensure production goals, quality standards, and on-time delivery are consistently met
- Develop and manage production schedules, capacity planning, and resource allocation
- Monitor plant performance metrics including OEE, scrap, yield, downtime, and productivity
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and increase production efficiency
- Improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and process flow
- Drive operational improvements through data analysis and team engagement
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor production supervisors, team leads, and maintenance staff
- Build a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching
- Identify training needs and develop workforce development programs
- Support succession planning and leadership development
Technical & Process Expertise
- Provide hands-on support and guidance on manufacturing equipment and production processes
- Oversee secondary processing operations including:
- Grinding
- Cutting
- Swaging
- Pointing
- Deburring
- Cleaning
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams on:
- New product introductions
- Process validation
- Capital equipment projects
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and GMP standards
- Promote a safety-first culture and enforce OSHA guidelines
- Lead root cause analysis and CAPA investigations
- Partner with the Quality team to maintain product integrity and customer satisfaction
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage plant operating budgets including labor, materials, maintenance, and capital expenditures
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Support strategic planning for capacity growth and technology improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field
- 7–10 years of progressive manufacturing experience
- 3–5 years in Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or Manufacturing Manager leadership roles
- Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple production lines and competing priorities
Preferred Experience
- Medical device manufacturing
- Precision metal tubing or hypodermic tubing
- ISO 13485 quality systems
- GMP regulated manufacturing environments
Work Environment
- Full-time on-site manufacturing leadership role
- Frequent interaction with production teams on the shop floor
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
- Exposure to industrial manufacturing environments
Compensation & Benefits
- $135,000 – $160,000 base salary (DOE)
- Annual bonus (typically 5–15% of base salary)
