Position Summary
The School-Based Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) supports students’ academic and functional success by providing occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L). The COTA works collaboratively with educators, related service providers, and families to help students develop skills needed for participation in school routines, including classroom activities, self-care, mobility, social participation, and fine motor/visual-motor tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement occupational therapy interventions as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist in accordance with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Support students in improving fine motor coordination, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-regulation, and daily living skills to enhance participation in academic and functional school activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to integrate therapy strategies into the classroom and school routines.
- Adapt and modify classroom materials or the environment to support student access and engagement.
- Collect and record accurate data on student performance and progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings (as requested), and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and comply with school, district, and state regulations.
- Maintain therapy equipment, tools, and supplies in good working order.
- Communicate effectively with the supervising OT and report changes in student performance or needs.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current national certification through NBCOT (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant).
- Active state COTA license or registration (dependent on state requirements).
- Experience with children or school-based therapy preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
