Vitality Shines is seeking one (1) or two (2) compassionate, dependable, and flexible On-Call Direct Support Professional I or Direct Support Professional II (“On-Call DSP”) to provide resident care coverage as staffing needs arise.
The On-Call DSP provides direct care, supervision, and support to adults residing in our Adult Residential Facility. This position assists residents with daily living activities, promotes community participation, supports personal independence, and helps maintain a safe and comfortable residential environment.
This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexible work schedules while gaining valuable experience in behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and residential care services.
ON-CALL SCHEDULING
Scheduling Details:
- On-Call DSPs are not guaranteed a minimum number of work hours, but may receive a minimum of 8-hours a month.
- Work schedules are assigned based on operational needs.
- On-Call DSPs may accept shifts based on availability.
- On-Call DSPs must provide their availability at least one (1) month in advance.
- On-Call DSPs are responsible for maintaining current contact information.
- Availability changes must be reported promptly.
- On-Call DSPs are expected to respond to staffing requests in a timely manner.

Pay & Training:
- DSP I Pay: $19.00 - $21.00/hour (based on experience or certifications)
- DSP II Pay: $21.00 - $23.00/hour (based on experience or certifications)
- Shift Differentials: Additional pay for Vitality Shines’ recognized holidays, emergency staffing incentives, last-minute shift pickup incentives, and coverage needs
- Paid Training/Reimbursements: VSR provides paid training, including New Employee Orientation, Resident Rights, Emergency Procedures, Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Documentation Training, Behavioral Health Support, Person-Centered Practices, or CPR and First Aid (as applicable)

Because the facility provides 24-hour care, On-Call DSPs play a critical role in maintaining safe staffing levels. On-Call DSPs may be contacted during:
- Staffing shortages
- Resident emergencies
- Severe weather
- Community emergencies
- Facility incidents
- Increased resident care needs
While On-Call DSPs are not required to accept every staffing request, reliable participation is expected to maintain active on-call status.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Certifications & Training:
- CPR and First Aid Certification required or must be obtained within Company-established timeframes
- Must complete required state training and certifications—we provide paid training and support to help you succeed
- Experience:
- DSP or Caregiving experience preferred but not required
- Entry-level applicants are encouraged to apply
- Additional Requirements:
- Successful background clearance
- Fingerprint clearance
- Negative TB screening
- Health screening as required
- Drug screening (if applicable)
- Valid driver's license if transporting residents
- Eligible to work in the United States (valid work authorization required)
We offer pay increases for current and active certifications or work experience, including:
- DSP certification or similar healthcare credentials
- 1 to 6 years of work experience as a DSP or other healthcare professional

1. Communication & Teamwork: Frequent interaction with residents and staff; must clearly follow directions and communicate important updates during shifts.
2. Resident Responsibility: Provides supervision and support to residents independently; contributes to maintaining a safe and structured environment.
3. Work Setting: Indoor, home-like residential environment with occasional community outings.
4. Safety & Compliance: Follows all safety procedures, reporting requirements, and care guidelines in accordance with Title 22 standards.
5. Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, and assisting residents with daily care tasks may be required.
6. Work Pace: Schedule-driven with a mix of routine tasks and occasional urgent situations requiring prompt response.
7. Professional Conduct: Must maintain appropriate attire, reliability, and a respectful approach to residents and team members at all times.
The DSP may be assigned duties including:
- Supervise and support residents during daily activities
- Assist with personal care needs
- Assist with meal preparation and housekeeping tasks
- Support resident independence and life skills development
- Monitor resident safety and well-being
- Observe and report changes in resident behavior or condition
- Assist with community activities and outings
- Assist with transportation to appointments when assigned
- Complete required documentation and progress notes
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
- Follow all Company policies and Title 22 regulations
- Participate in emergency response procedures as required
- Follow established care plans and schedules
- Assist residents with daily routines, including hygiene, personal care, and meals
- Administer residents' medications safely and accurately according to procedures
- Complete required documentation, including daily notes, activity logs, and incident reports
- Assist with implementing behavioral support strategies to meet resident needs
- Communicate effectively with team members and report concerns or updates
To remain active on the on-call roster, On-Call DSPs must:
- Maintain required certifications
- Meet attendance and reliability expectations
- Maintain satisfactory performance
- Complete required training
- Remain in good standing with Vitality Shines
- Respond professionally to staffing communications
On-Call DSPs who repeatedly fail to respond to staffing requests, fail to maintain availability information, or demonstrate unreliability may be removed from the on-call roster.
