Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at University of Chicago Medicine as a Clinic Coordinator in the Radiology Department . Here, you will perform reception and clerical duties of considerable difficulty in outpatient clinic settings. The job involves extensive utilization of Hospitals' systems and constant interaction with patients, physicians, and other members of the Hospitals' staff. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity in Hyde Park. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Essential Job Functions
- Schedules clinic appointments for new, referral, return and reinstate patients within prescribed limits.
- Screens callers requesting preliminary appointments; exercises judgment in referring emergency calls
- Maintains prints and distributes clinic schedules.
- Orders and locates patient’s charts for clinic visits, projects and follow-up. Assembles charts for new patients, controls traffic of charts within clinic area.
Obtains and assures availability of medical data from a variety of sources for physicians, projects and clinic visits.
Checks patients on arrival; captures referring physician information as appropriate.
- Schedules and explain patient tests, special procedures and referrals to other clinics. If needed, instruct patients in preparation and charges for future visits, lab work, x-rays, etc.
- Handles discharge and billing processes and ensures that all financial encounter information is obtained in a timely and accurate manner.
- Obtains authorization for treatment from managed care organizations and/or explains self-pay ramifications to patients. Directs patients to Outpatient Services staff as necessary.
- Utilizes a wide variety of computer systems (HIS, EPIC, MARS, Sunquest, OACIS) effectively.
- Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure that all patient care activities are coordinated effectively and that both clinical and fiscal goals are met.
- Establishes a customer service orientation in the clinic and ensures that clerical staff interactions with both patients and physicians are handled satisfactorily.
- Assists in the resolution of patient and physician complaints.

Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of medical terminology class
- Ability to type 35 wpm or perform data entry at 4500 keystrokes per minute
- Ability to perform general office duties of filing, Xeroxing, operating printers
- Familiarity with telephone and intercom systems
- Ability to enter and retrieve data accurately and quickly, check work and resolve mistakes
- Strong verbal, writing, and number-comparison skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to handle a wide variety of public contacts, including conflicts, with patience, tact, courtesy and discretion
Considerable skill in determining priorities, working independently, and making decisions.
High degree of initiative and problem-solving ability.
Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, make independent decisions, and assume responsibility.
