Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and other regulatory standards.
- Manage the full cycle of general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing processes.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing and adherence to company policies.
- Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Ensure regulatory compliance by managing SOX controls, governmental reporting requirements, and other statutory obligations.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and maintaining high-performance standards within the team.
- Utilize various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and specialized financial systems to streamline operations and enhance data analysis through Excel spreadsheets.
- Perform cash management activities including treasury management tasks such as bank reconciliations and liquidity forecasting.
- Support internal audits and coordinate external audit processes to ensure transparency and compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in accounting processes by leveraging technical accounting expertise and automation tools.
Experience
- Proven experience in financial accounting with a strong background in corporate or public accounting environments.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and regulatory compliance standards such as SOX.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing accounting teams and leading complex financial projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with financial software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; proficiency in Excel data analysis is essential.
- Strong understanding of governmental and non-profit accounting practices is a plus.
- Experience with budget development, forecasting, cost analysis, and financial reporting is highly valued.
- Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation tasks such as balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear financial reports for diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with technical accounting concepts like double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable processing, and payroll management.
