Power Mobility Product Repair Technician

Position Summary
Leading Respiratory Services is seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled Power Mobility Product Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, maintain, and service power mobility equipment for our customers.
This position will primarily work with power wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and related mobility equipment and accessories. The technician will perform both in-shop and field service, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, replace defective components, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure equipment is functioning safely and properly before being returned to the customer.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working with electrical and electronic components, able to troubleshoot problems independently, and committed to providing excellent service to individuals who depend on their mobility equipment every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair power wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other power mobility equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment failures.
- Test batteries, chargers, motors, controllers, wiring harnesses, joysticks, actuators, switches, and other electrical components.
- Replace or repair motors, wheels, tires, casters, batteries, seating components, armrests, footrests, electronics, and other mobility equipment parts.
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on mobility equipment.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment, multimeters, manufacturer software, service manuals, and other tools to identify equipment problems.
- Complete repairs according to manufacturer specifications and company safety standards.
- Perform equipment evaluations to determine whether products can be repaired or require replacement.
- Verify proper equipment operation and complete final safety checks following repairs.
- Perform service calls at patients' homes, healthcare facilities, and other customer locations when necessary.
- Pick up and deliver mobility equipment requiring service when assigned.
- Clearly explain equipment problems, repairs, and basic equipment operation to customers and caregivers.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service calls, diagnostics, repairs, parts used, equipment condition, and completed work.
- Identify and order necessary replacement parts.
- Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used repair parts, tools, and supplies.
- Communicate with manufacturers and technical support departments when advanced troubleshooting assistance is required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized repair workspace.
- Properly clean and disinfect equipment according to company procedures.
- Assist with the assembly, setup, and delivery of new mobility equipment when needed.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and other company property in good working condition.
- Follow all company policies and applicable safety, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide professional, respectful, and compassionate service to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and coworkers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

The Power Mobility Product Repair Technician may work with equipment including:
- Power wheelchairs
- Complex and standard power mobility devices
- Mobility scooters
- Power wheelchair seating systems
- Joysticks and controllers
- Batteries and charging systems
- Motors and drive assemblies
- Actuators and power seating components
- Tires, wheels, casters, and suspension components
- Seat cushions and positioning components
- Headrests, armrests, footrests, and other accessories
- Mobility equipment lifts and related accessories
- Other durable medical and mobility equipment as assigned
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, batteries, motors, and electronic components.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, service instructions, and manufacturer documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs correctly and safely.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic computer and tablet skills for documenting repairs and service activity.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel throughout the company's service area for customer service calls.
- Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and maneuver mobility equipment.
Preferred
- Previous experience repairing power wheelchairs, mobility scooters, medical equipment, automotive equipment, industrial equipment, electronics, or similar products.
- Experience with manufacturers such as Quantum Rehab, Pride Mobility, Permobil, Sunrise Medical, Golden Technologies, Merits, or similar mobility manufacturers.
- Experience using multimeters and electrical diagnostic equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting DC electrical systems, batteries, motors, controllers, and wiring.
- ATP, SMS, RESNA, manufacturer-specific, or other mobility equipment training or certification is a plus but is not required.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach while servicing equipment.
- Work on equipment at floor level or in confined areas.
- Regularly lift and carry tools, batteries, replacement parts, and equipment components.
- Safely lift approximately 50 pounds independently and heavier equipment with appropriate assistance or lifting devices.
- Push, pull, load, unload, and maneuver power wheelchairs and scooters.
- Drive for extended periods when performing field service calls.

Work Environment

- Repair shop/warehouse work

- Driving throughout the service area
- Indoor and outdoor equipment loading and unloading
Technicians may occasionally encounter homes or environments with pets, smoke, limited accessibility, or other conditions commonly associated with field service work.
