About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Data Center Administrator to join our Data Center Operations team. This is an entry-level, on-site position responsible for the day-to-day health of our data center environment — monitoring power, cooling, and environmental conditions, tracking physical assets, managing rack space, and keeping our DCIM and asset records accurate.
This role is a strong fit for someone early in their IT career who is organized, comfortable working hands-on with hardware, and enjoys the routine and discipline of infrastructure operations. You will work closely with the IT Help Desk, IT Governance, and Physical Security teams, and you will gain direct exposure to enterprise DCIM platforms and data center best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Monitoring & Alerting
- Monitor the data center environment through our DCIM platforms (Data Center Expert / IT Advisor), tracking devices, electrical power, temperature, and humidity.
- Review incoming DCIM email alerts and take appropriate corrective action, including equipment resets and replacements.
- Check UPS and device battery status; replace or calibrate batteries as needed.
- Audit rack PDU and sensor error alerts, and open troubleshooting requests with the IT Help Desk.
- Monitor the Data Center Expert dashboard and update supporting data as needed, including sensor configuration and rack PDU replacements.
Facility & Environmental Checks
- Perform a daily physical walkthrough of the data center covering cooling, temperature and humidity, water leak detection, equipment operation, general housekeeping and safety, physical security and access, rack PDU status, and key/lock box management.
Asset & Space Management
- Assign rack space per IT Governance approval, and maintain rack assignment and rack space records.
- Process asset carry-in, carry-out, and change requests: confirm rack-U elevation and physical location, then update the asset management system (GLPI).
- Maintain the physical security carry-in/carry-out request list and upload documentation to the designated secure repository.
- Register asset additions, removals, and changes per incoming requests — updating rack unit space and power in DCIM, and asset location in GLPI.
- Review asset disposal notifications and reconcile the affected assets in both DCIM and GLPI.
Access & Documentation
- Administer DCIM user accounts, processing add, remove, and password reset requests.
- Verify that DCIM and IT Advisor data backups complete successfully, and copy backups to the designated shared location.
- Keep the team's Confluence documentation current, including rack unit utilization and rack allocation.
- Follow up on open Help Desk requests, amber-level alerts, and unexpected asset changes through to resolution.
Weekly Operations
- Produce a weekly data center report covering operational status, task completion, and project updates.
- Reconcile asset records between GLPI and IT Advisor, investigating and correcting discrepancies.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience or relevant certification.
- 0–2 years of experience in IT operations, data center operations, IT asset management, or a technical help desk role.
- Working knowledge of data center fundamentals: server hardware, rack layout and U-space, power distribution (PDUs), UPS systems, and cooling.
- Comfortable with structured recordkeeping and able to keep multiple systems in sync accurately.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Google Workspace, particularly spreadsheets, for tracking and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work clearly and report status to stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to repeatable daily procedures.
- Able to work on-site during scheduled shifts and to respond to environmental or equipment alerts outside of standard business hours as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with a DCIM platform — Schneider Electric Data Center Expert (DCE) and IT Advisor (ITA) strongly preferred.
- Experience with an IT asset management or ITSM tool such as GLPI, ServiceNow, or similar.
- Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence or comparable documentation platforms.
- Relevant certification such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, or a data center certification (e.g., DCCA, CDCP).
- Experience working within a change management or approval-gated process for physical infrastructure.
- Awareness of physical security controls and access-control procedures in a restricted-access facility.
Tools & Systems You'll Use
DCIM (Data Center Expert, IT Advisor) · GLPI asset management · Atlassian Confluence · IT Help Desk ticketing · rack PDUs and environmental sensors · secure document repository for physical security records
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- On-site role in a data center: expect an environment with sustained low temperatures and elevated noise levels.
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching while working in and around racks.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, with assistance or mechanical aids where appropriate.
- Occasional use of ladders or lifts to service upper rack elevations.
- Adherence to all safety, physical security, and access-control procedures at all times.
