Rory's Custom Fabrication is seeking a skilled Drafter / CAD Designer to join our growing team. This position is responsible for creating accurate 2D production drawings and detailed 3D models for custom metal fabrication projects. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and enjoys solving complex design challenges while working closely with project managers, fabricators, and clients.
This is an in person position based in our fabrication shop where your work directly supports CNC production and custom fabrication.
Responsibilities:
- Perform field measurements and site visits to accurately document existing conditions.
- Create detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using SketchUp.
- Produce clear shop drawings containing dimensions, materials, weld details, hardware, and fabrication instructions.
- Generate DXF files for CNC plasma tables and other automated cutting equipment.
- Review drawings for accuracy, manufacturability, and code compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, welders, installers, and clients throughout each project.
- Answer technical questions during fabrication and revise drawings when necessary.
- Review completed work for quality and accuracy before release.
- Maintain project schedules while managing drafting budgets and priorities.
- Continuously improve drafting standards, templates, and workflows.
Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years of drafting experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or architectural environment.
- Proficiency using SketchUp to create both 3D models and production drawings.
- Experience creating DXF files for CNC equipment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and fabrication methods.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret field measurements accurately.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation for occasional site visits.
