Job Title: Long-Term Leave Replacement – Music Teacher

Position Overview:
The Rumson Country Day School is seeking a creative, energetic, and engaging educator to serve as a Long-Term Leave Replacement Music Teacher from September through November. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, warmth, and strong classroom presence while teaching music to students ranging from 2-year-olds through middle school, including grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. This individual should be comfortable creating dynamic, developmentally appropriate lessons that foster a love of music, movement, creativity, and performance.
The successful candidate will have experience teaching instrumental music, integrating movement and performance into instruction, and creating a classroom environment that is fun, structured, and engaging. Experience with theater, drama, and school productions is essential, as third-grade students participate in a school play and the teacher will support the department with rehearsals, play preparation, and performance-related activities.
Job Requirements:
- Valid New Jersey teaching certification in Music or a related field preferred
- Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students
- Experience working with young children (including preschool-aged students) preferred
- Demonstrated experience with theater, drama, school productions, or performance-based programming
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students across a wide range of ages and developmental levels
Job Goal:
To provide engaging, joyful, and developmentally appropriate music instruction to students from preschool through middle school while supporting the school’s performing arts program, including theater and student performances.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plans and delivers creative, engaging, and age-appropriate music lessons for students ranging from 2-year-olds through grade 6.
- Creates a classroom environment that fosters joy, confidence, participation, creativity, and a love of music and performance.
- Incorporates instrumental music, movement, rhythm, singing, and performance opportunities into instruction.
- Designs lessons that are interactive, dynamic, and responsive to the varying developmental needs and interests of students.
- Demonstrates strong classroom management skills and establishes clear expectations and routines that support student engagement and success.
- Supports the performing arts department with third-grade play rehearsals, production preparation, and performance logistics.
