The Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums and History, is recruiting for a Museum Director 3. This position is responsible for the overall leadership of the Nevada State Museum Las Vegas, an institution accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The museum is one of seven managed by the Division of Museums and History and is located in central Las Vegas on the Las Vegas Springs Preserve campus. Now approaching its 40th anniversary, the museum requires a director who can oversee all aspects of museum management, including overall leadership; staff and volunteer scheduling; development and work assignments for a team of 20 museum professionals (when fully staffed) and approximately 100 volunteers and docents; daily operations; long term planning; fiscal management; and community relations. The director is expected to set and maintain high standards of professional practice related to ethics and public trust, security and preservation of the museum’s collections and those of its partners, public access to collections, and the development of exhibitions, publications, education, and research initiatives. Additionally, the director actively participates in the development and management of State and Trust Fund budgets, restricted donations and special project accounts, and the pursuit of grants and donor support.
Museum Directors are responsible for the overall leadership, operation, planning, and management of a State museum.
