Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to take ownership of job costing, financial reporting, AP/AR, and revenue cycle processes in a fast-paced construction environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate project financials, supporting leadership with timely reporting, and ensuring billing, collections, and WIP schedules are complete and compliant.
The ideal candidate has leadership experience, strong construction accounting experience, is comfortable working cross-functionally with Project Managers, and can independently manage month-end and job-level reporting.
Key ResponsibilitiesJob Costing & Project Accounting
- Set up new jobs and approved change orders in the accounting system, including contract values, billing terms, retainage, tax status, phases, and cost codes
- Maintain accurate job cost reporting by reviewing labor, material, and subcontract costs; correcting miscoding; and tracking committed costs vs. budget
- Prepare and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) schedules using percent-complete methodology, including earned revenue and under/over billings
- Support weekly production and job review meetings with cost, labor, and variance reports
- Maintain complete digital job files including contracts, change orders, lien waivers, pay applications, certified payroll support, closeout, and warranty documents
Accounts Receivable & Billing
- Prepare and submit AIA pay applications, including schedule of values, approved change orders, and required backup documentation
- Create and process service invoices, ensuring accurate labor, material, tax treatment, and customer documentation
- Manage accounts receivable aging, collections, retainage tracking, and dispute resolution
- Escalate high-risk or delinquent accounts to leadership and project teams
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding items
- Support monthly close by reviewing job cost detail, revenue recognition, and balance sheet activity
- Reconcile credit card activity and ensure accurate GL and job cost coding
- Provide financial support and documentation to external CPA firms for tax filings, audits, and year-end close
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
- Support accounting system implementations or enhancements (including job costing and payroll integration)
- Improve documentation, SOPs, and reporting consistency across job and billing processes
- Partner with Accounting Leadership to strengthen internal controls and reporting accuracy
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with construction/job cost accounting strongly preferred
- Experience with WIP reporting, percent-complete revenue recognition, and AIA billing preferred
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting/job cost software
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and coordinate with Project Managers and leadership
- High attention to detail with strong documentation and follow-through
Preferred Experience
- Construction accounting software experience (e.g., Foundation or similar)
- Prior experience supporting audits, CPA requests, or lender reporting
- Understanding of lien waivers, retainage, certified payroll, and contract compliance
Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
