We are seeking a skilled and dependable Building Engineer to support the daily operations and maintenance of a 17-story commercial office building and two sister properties. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and other building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and experienced in commercial building maintenance with a strong commitment to preventative maintenance and tenant satisfaction.
Duties
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC equipment and building automation systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and building systems.
- Repair plumbing fixtures, piping, valves, drains, and water distribution systems.
- Complete drywall repairs, painting, carpentry, ceiling tile replacement, and other general building maintenance.
- Replace lighting, ballasts, switches, and perform minor electrical repairs.
- Respond promptly to tenant service requests and emergency maintenance calls.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of building equipment and document maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure quality work and compliance with safety standards.
- Assist with maintaining life safety systems and compliance with OSHA and local building codes.
- Provide maintenance support to two additional commercial properties as needed.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial building engineering or facilities maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems with EPA Universal Certification preferred.
- Experience with plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and general building repairs.
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety practices and commercial building operations.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule and respond to emergency service calls.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms and on rooftops.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between assigned properties.
