About Us
Mothers for Justice and Equality (MJE) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to building the leadership of women with lived experience to strengthen families, transform communities, and advance systems change.
Founded on the belief that those closest to community challenges are also closest to the solutions, MJE equips women with the knowledge, skills, healing, and support needed to become effective leaders, advocates, and changemakers. Through leadership development, workforce pathways, family support, health equity initiatives, youth development, and the MAV Learning Community, we invest in grassroots leaders who are creating lasting change in their communities.
Today, MJE serves thousands of individuals each year, manages more than $3 million in annual programming, and is building a national network of women leaders committed to advancing community-driven solutions. Our work is grounded in the values of dignity, healing, learning, collaboration, and stewardship because we believe that when women lead, families heal, communities grow stronger, and lasting change becomes possible.

Constituent leadership is central to the mission of Mothers for Justice and Equality and is highlighted in our current strategic plan. As such, we’re seeking to more fully represent our community and constituencies, particularly Black and other marginalized people in Boston and nationally, to amplify those voices and provide an opportunity for our constituency to participate in the overall direction and leadership of the organization. As such, we actively encourage candidates from broadly diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to apply.
