Position Summary: Serves as the program subject matter expert on health care and health care issues. This position provides basic care to clients with substance abuse disorder, including assessments, and administering prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
Essential Functions
· Conducts assessments on potential clients.
· Monitors and maintains stock of appropriate first-aid supplies, and medical equipment.
· Maintains security of all medications, first aid supplies, and medical equipment.
· Administers medications according to prescribed and standing orders.
· Assists clients, especially those who are “medically fragile,” in all aspects of daily living,
· Monitoring health status, and reports relevant information to physician and program staff.
· Determines if medical complaints can/should be addressed on- or off-site.
· Attends staff meetings to coordinate and communicate client medical, mental, and emotional health problems and concerns.
· Provides group-based health education services to staff, clients, and family members, as needed and scheduled.
· Trains milieu staff in the proper handling and reading of such items as thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, and glucometers.
· Coordinate referrals and services for medical needs beyond Community House ability.
· Make referrals for dental and medical services as requested.
· Education and awareness on core competencies in relation to individuals with co-occurring disorders to be addressed in training activities.
Minimum Education/Experience
- High School diploma or its equivalent.
