POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Director of the Transportation Department, this position plays a pivotal role in overseeing shipping logistics for bulk and bag rock salt, ensuring timely and efficient transportation operations. In addition, this position will oversee the company owned trucking operations at Snowflake Transportation, overseeing the productivity of the fleet during peak and off-peak seasons.
Key responsibilities include leading a team focused on shipping and logistics for bulk and bag commodities, negotiating freight rates, cultivating business relationships with owners and customers, and leveraging technology to analyze data to inform business decisions and improve operational efficiency and profitability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Freight and Shipping Management
· Oversee transportation of salt during peak season and manage non-salt commodities during the off-season.
· Obtain and negotiate freight rates for bulk and bag salt. Analyze shifts, spikes, and trends on to generate cost savings initiatives.
· Oversee a team that coordinates shipments of bulk materials to ensure timely delivery.
· Utilize back hauls to maximize production and efficiency.
· The individual in this position should assist with these duties as needed during peak season.
Team Leadership and Management
· Provide leadership that drives excellence, continual improvement, and teamwork throughout shipping logistics and fleet maintenance operations and with external customers.
· Conduct regular meetings and provide regular performance reports to key stakeholders.
Customer and Owner Relationship Management
· Grow business year over year through identifying and pursuing new customer lead opportunities including further establishment of a non-salt customer base.
· Foster and maintain strong customer relationships via delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement.
Operational Oversight
· Support the operations of the trucking company through strategic planning and fleet management.
· Ongoing analysis of fleet operations and profitability, implementing recommendations for improvement.
· Determine, measure, and report on key performance indicators.
· Create, maintain, and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis.
· Manage the fleet maintenance team to ensure the company’s fleet is maintained to the highest standard.

Strategic Decision-Making
· Make strategic business decisions based on data analysis, forecasting, and budget considerations.
· Compile and analyze shifts, spikes, and trends regarding transportation to generate cost savings initiatives and increase profitability.
Technology
· Experience utilizing Transportation Management Systems to drive fleet performance.
· Data Literacy: Demonstrated ability to work with reporting tools to spot trends, establish fleet metrics, and achieve goals.
· Automation and AI: Ability to leverage automation and AI resources to drive demand forecasting, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Financial Management
· Develop and manage company budgets with an emphasis on the trucking transportation P&L.
· Analyze financial data to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Safety and Compliance
· Oversee all aspects of DOT compliance for drivers, dispatch, and the maintenance shop.
· Ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards in all transportation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
· 8+ years of experience in Transportation Logistics.
· Demonstrated experience managing B2B delivery to include managing a fleet of vehicles.
· Excel in transportation pricing and strong cost control management.
· Ability to utilize technology to inform decisions and drive results.
· Adept at critical thinking, planning, and problem solving in a transportation management role.
· Comprehensive knowledge of transportation regulations and policies to include DOT and ELD.
· Professional communication skills applied both internally and externally.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Current CDL license preferred.
· General knowledge of heavy-duty truck mechanics preferred.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
· An equivalent combination of related work experience, training, and/or education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

This is an in-person position at the American Rock Salt Traffic Office located at 5520 Route 63, Mount Morris, NY 14510.
COMPENSATION:
· Position Salary: $100,000 + commensurate with experience.
· Full-Time
