American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position in Asheville, NC, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and proficiency with advanced cardiac support equipment on a night shift schedule.

CVICU setting in a hospital environment, located in Asheville, NC
-
16-bed unit staffed by RNs only — no HUC or PCT support

Patient ratios are 2:1 or 1:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity

Procedures performed on the unit include cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesis
-
Equipment includes ventilators, telemetry monitors, Baxter IV pumps, IABP, CRRT, Impella, and hypothermia devices

Charting is done in Cerner
-
Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Alternating weekend requirement

Travelers are required to float to all areas of the facility

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
BLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted); certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start

NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for CVICU RNs

CCRN certification is recommended but not required; IABP, Impella, and CRRT certifications are appreciated
-
Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience required

Must-have skills: titration of vesicant medications, familiarity with pressors, sedation and paralytics, ventilator experience, trach management, telemetry interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, and PA catheter setup and interpretation

Desirable advanced skills include experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT

US SSN and date of birth required for consideration

One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)

Responsibilities include caring for complex cardiac ICU patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, vasopressor management, mechanical ventilation, and cardiac device support

Familiarity with transvenous pacing, cardioversion, TEE, and chest tube maintenance is beneficial

Scrub color requirement: all navy, or navy and white; no pullovers or hoodies permitted

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
