The Duncansville VFW Post 8724 is looking for a dependable and motivated Line Cook / Short Order Cook to join our kitchen team. We are seeking someone who takes pride in preparing quality food, works well in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys serving our members and guests.
Position Summary
The Line Cook / Short Order Cook is responsible for preparing menu items quickly and consistently while maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen. Our menu features appetizers, sandwiches, wings, salads, and other made-to-order favorites.
Responsibilities
- Prepare made-to-order menu items including:
- Appetizers
- Wings
- Burgers and sandwiches
- Salads
- French fries and other fried foods
- Daily specials
- Operate grills, flat tops, fryers, ovens, and other commercial kitchen equipment safely.
- Ensure food is prepared according to recipe and presentation standards.
- Maintain proper food temperatures and follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Stock and organize food preparation stations before and during each shift.
- Assist with receiving and rotating food inventory.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with health department regulations.
- Work efficiently during busy meal periods while maintaining excellent quality.
- Assist with preparing food for special events, banquets, and VFW functions as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous line cook, short order cook, or restaurant kitchen experience is preferred.
- Willing to train the right individual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized during busy service periods.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Schedule
- Part-time position (with the opportunity for additional hours during special events)
- Evening and weekend availability is preferred.
- Flexible scheduling.
Compensation
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
