Position Purpose
This role will lead the investment accounting functions for Sagicor USA entities. This includes the preparation of statutory investment related bluebook schedules and disclosures for Sagicor Life Insurance Company, a US domiciled insurance company in accordance with Statutory deadlines, and the preparation of investment schedules reported in the consolidated IFRS financial statements of Sagicor USA, in accordance with established IFRS reporting deadlines. This role will be responsible for ensuring the controls associated with reporting of invested assets are relevant, effective, and current. This role will report into AVP of Accounting Operations, and collaborate with Finance teams, and other key business partners to develop investment related disclosures and commentary for internal management and board reporting; and will work closely with the Investments team to ensure accurate valuation and reporting of investments. This role may lead a team of investment accountants and analysts. This role will support both the IFRS and Stat audits, in providing investment related information to auditors and may have additional responsibilities and duties beyond investment reporting.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Leads the monthly close of investments on Clearwater and SUN GL
- Prepares or approves investment related journal entries for both Stat and IFRS ledgers on Sagicor’s SUN GL system.
- Works closely with Clearwater to lock down NAIC schedules and ensure appropriate controls on Clearwater information are maintained.
- Prepares / reviews investment related IFRS footnote disclosures.
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation and accuracy of investment related GL account reconciliations.
- Oversees 3-way reconciliation between ledger, custodian, and Clearwater.
- Manages flow of Clearwater data into appropriate blue book schedules (Schedule D, BA, etc.) in Gain Compliance software (similar to WINGS)
- Works closely with investments team to monitor investment valuations, impairments etc.
- Ensures appropriate internal controls are documented and performed regarding investments.
- Ensures adequate documentation around investment controls are maintained including controls governing Clearwater data.
- Develops and standardizes a quarterly investment analytics package.
- Assists with the development of investment commentary for management and board reports under IFRS and STAT
- Prepares / reviews statutory adjustments and information for AVR, IMR and RBC
- Assists with capital planning / projections from investments standpoint.
- Prepares ad hoc reports and disclosures as needed.
- Prepares investment commentary for management reporting
- Mentors and monitors direct reports. Evaluates and provides feedback on performance.
- Ensures adequate training for team and ensures that procedures are well documented.
- Leads the investment accounting team, responsibilities including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
Qualifications
- BA in Accounting or Finance.
- Ten years of public accounting, investment accounting and financial reporting experience including Statutory and or IFRS.
- Prior managerial experience
- CPA is a plus.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Will require the use of various Windows-based financial reporting systems including Sun general ledger and Gain compliance annual statement software.
- Well-developed analysis and research skills, ability to interpret complex situations, which involve accounting and policy administration systems.

- Quarterly travel to Scottsdale Arizona and or Tampa Florida offices may be required
