The National Rural Health Resource Center provides technical assistance, information, tools, and resources for the improvement of rural healthcare. The work that The Center does for rural communities is pivotal to the health of rural Americans and plays a significant role in keeping small rural hospitals open.
We are seeking two Health Care Technology Specialists to join our innovative and mission-driven team.
The Health Care Technology Specialist combines strong project management expertise with advanced health care technology support to improve rural health systems and organizational sustainability. Responsibilities include managing multiple technical assistance engagements simultaneously, coordinating complex projects and relationships, and guiding rural hospitals and clinics through implementation of telehealth, electronic health records, digital infrastructure, and operational improvement initiatives.
The position also involves facilitating service line expansion, conducting operational and technology assessments, supporting data-driven decision-making, and delivering virtual and onsite education, training, and implementation support. Through collaboration with health care leaders, consultants, and government partners, this work strengthens rural health care capacity, advances quality improvement and operational efficiency, and helps rural organizations address technology initiatives, improve access to care, and sustain essential health care services in rural communities.
The Health Care Technology Specialist should have at least four years of experience in health care information and technology software, platforms and infrastructure, telehealth or virtual care with a bachelor's degree in health care management or administration, business, public health, health science, health information technology, health information management, health informatics, or a closely related healthcare field specifically with a technology focus. This person should be outgoing and possess outstanding customer service abilities, being able to communicate effectively while facilitating, training, and presenting to both groups and leaders. They should possess effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent project management skills, and be detailed oriented and with a strong commitment to performance improvement.
Experience preferred with working remotely and with Microsoft Office, Teams, and Zoom Meetings or similar platform. Valid driver's license required.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide direct assistance to the Program Manager/Director and team to support daily Center and Program operations.
- Manage multiple projects, activities, and technical assistance engagements simultaneously using strong project management skills.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for federal, state, and local government agencies, community partners, health care leaders, rural health organizations, grantees, consultants, and participating sites.
- Provide excellent customer service and guide health care organizations through program processes, activities, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and manage technical assistance engagements, including scopes of work, contracts, funding requests, MOUs, LOAs, timelines, and implementation activities.
- Plan, develop, and deliver virtual and onsite technical assistance to rural hospitals, clinics, and health care organizations.
- Provide technical assistance related to telehealth, electronic health records, health care technology, wireless infrastructure, hardware and software systems, and digital solutions that support operational efficiency and quality improvement.
- Support health care organizations with implementation of operational, financial, business office, physician practice management, and quality improvement best practices through technology improvements or service line expansion.
- Facilitate service line analysis activities, including reviewing consultant assessments, supporting decision-making, and guiding implementation of selected service line priorities.
- Facilitate and support the review of action plans that address service gaps, improve sustainability, and advance organizational strategic priorities.
- Coordinate and facilitate virtual and onsite meetings, consultations, workshops, webinars, presentations, and training sessions.
- Develop presentations, templates, tools, and training resources independently and in collaboration with the team to meet Program needs and support federal, state and local government and community partners, health care leaders, community champions and/or community partners with internal capacity building.
- Communicate regularly with health care organizations and stakeholders to provide updates, monitor progress, and ensure deliverables meet established timelines and requirements.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, staff, and health care organizations to coordinate and transition shared technical assistance activities across program teams.
- Promote available tools, resources, and best practices to health care leaders, community partners, and rural health organizations to strengthen local capacity.
- Build and apply knowledge of rural health challenges, innovative care models, and sustainability strategies to support rural health care organizations.
- Collect, track, document, and report best practices, trends, outputs, outcomes, and evaluation data related to program services and activities.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including Salesforce updates, reporting materials, proofreading, and editing of documents.
- Identify and participate in performance improvement initiatives that support team operations and healthcare organization outcomes.
- Participate in Center teams, committees, workgroups, conferences, workshops, summits, and organizational meetings.
- Travel nationally, including overnight and multi-city travel to rural communities, for up to 50% of work time.
- Perform additional regular and ad hoc duties as assigned to support Center and Program operations.

Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health care management or administration, business, public health, health science, health education, health information technology, health information management, health informatics, or closely related field specifically with a technology focus (ideally health care related). Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- At least four years of experience in health care information and technology software, platforms and infrastructure, telehealth or virtual care.
- Valid driver’s license required.

- Able to lift up to thirty-five pounds at times.
