Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and be proficient in various operational tasks. This role requires someone who is not only technically adept but also possesses excellent customer service skills to ensure a seamless experience for our clients. Operators will be responsible for managing equipment, performing diagnostics, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vehicles.
Key responsibilities:
- Responding to service calls: Driving to the location of a disabled vehicle upon receiving a dispatch call from a customer, law enforcement, or roadside assistance company.
- Vehicle assessment and securing: Evaluating the condition of the disabled vehicle, determining the best towing method, and properly securing it to the tow truck.
- Towing and transportation: Safely towing the vehicle to the desired destination, which could be a repair shop, impound lot, or another specified location.
- Basic roadside assistance: Providing minor repairs like jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires, or delivering fuel when necessary.
- Documentation and paperwork: Completing necessary paperwork for each tow operation, including vehicle details, service provided, and customer information.
- Vehicle maintenance: Performing routine inspections and maintenance checks on the tow truck to ensure proper functionality.
- Customer interaction: Communicating effectively with customers, providing updates on arrival time, and addressing any concerns.
Required skills:
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Possessing a valid CDL with necessary endorsements depending on the state and type of tow truck operated or the ability to obtain on the job.
- Mechanical knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics to diagnose minor issues and perform basic repairs.
- Safe driving practices: Excellent driving skills with a focus on road safety and adherence to traffic laws.
- Physical ability: Capability to lift and maneuver heavy objects when securing vehicles to the tow truck.
- Communication skills: Clear and professional communication with customers, dispatchers, and law enforcement.
- Customer service focus: Ability to remain calm and provide helpful assistance to customers in stressful situations.
Work environment:
- Primarily outdoors in various weather conditions
- Exposure to traffic hazards on highways and roadways
- May require working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
