About Modern Herb Co.
Modern Herb Co. is the consumer brand of The Hemp Collect — a federally compliant hemp manufacturer with our own lab, production facility, and quality program in Canton, North Carolina. We are founder-led and self-owned. No VCs, no private equity, no outside pressure to make short-term decisions.
We make beverages, gummies, tinctures, and other compliant hemp products, and we sell them to licensed retailers across the country. We are expanding our presence in the Atlanta metro and looking for the person who will build it.
About the Role
This is a business development role first and a field role second. We want to be direct about that up front, because it determines whether this job is right for you.
Four days a week, you are on the phone and in your inbox — prospecting licensed retailers across the Southeast, qualifying them, and handing real opportunities to our Market Managers. This is the core of the job and the core of how you get paid.
One day a week, you are in the market — running tastings at Atlanta-area retailers, training store staff on our products, dropping samples, and making sure the accounts we have keep reordering.
If you want a job that is mostly driving and events, this is not it. If you are good on the phone and want the field work to be the reward rather than the whole job, keep reading.
What You'll Do
Business Development (80% of your week)
- Prospect licensed retailers, distributors, and chains by phone, email, and social
- Qualify accounts against licensing, product fit, and territory before advancing them
- Run discovery calls and find the person who actually makes the buying decision
- Hand qualified opportunities to Market Managers with a complete CRM record
- Keep a consistent daily activity floor — we care more about consistency than about big weeks
Field Activation (20% of your week)
- Run on-site tastings and sampling at licensed Atlanta-metro retailers
- Train retail staff on our products, dosing, differentiation, and compliant selling language
- Handle sample drops and merchandising at priority accounts
- Bring back shelf intelligence, competitive info, and reorder signals
- Report results the same day — accounts visited, staff trained, follow-ups needed
Field days occasionally land on a Friday or Saturday, when retail traffic is highest.
What We're Looking For
Required
- 21 or older
- Currently live in the Atlanta metro area
- 2+ years in outbound sales, business development, or inside sales, with a real record of pipeline you sourced yourself
- You have opened new accounts cold — from first call to first purchase order — and you can talk about specific ones
- Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, current insurance, clean driving record
- You keep a CRM current without anyone reminding you
- You can structure your own week without a manager in the room
Nice to Have
- Experience in hemp, cannabis, beverage, vape, smoke shop, or regulated CPG
- Existing relationships with licensed retailers in Atlanta
- You've run demos or staff trainings and can tell us what happened afterward, not just that they went well
- Familiarity with COAs and state compliance frameworks
Compensation & Benefits
- $60,000 base salary, paid biweekly
- Commission on qualified handoffs and closed first orders
- Event bonuses for executed field activations that meet our completion standards
- Reorder performance pay — a portion of your variable comp is tied to whether the accounts you visit actually reorder
- Health insurance, 401(k), PTO and sick time, employee product discount
- Mileage reimbursed at the IRS standard rate, plus approved event and travel expenses
Where This Goes
We hire, train, and build champions. This role is a deliberate entry point into our sales organization, with a path toward a Market Manager seat carrying your own territory and quota.
Advancement depends on your performance and on an open territory existing when you're ready — we are not going to promise you a seat we don't control. What we will do is tell you exactly what the bar is and give you a straight answer about where you stand.
Compliance Matters Here
We operate in a regulated category where the rules change by state line and sometimes by quarter. Everyone here is expected to know the rules in their lane. If you are the kind of person who improvises when a retailer asks you to bend something, this will not work. If you are the kind of person who stops and asks, you will do well.
Modern Herb Co. / IHC Investments, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, or any other protected characteristic.
Must be 21 or older. Employment contingent on a motor vehicle record check.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

- 401(k)
- Employee discount
- Flexible schedule
- Fuel reimbursement
- Health insurance
- Mileage reimbursement
- Opportunities for advancement
- Paid time off
- Paid training
- Travel reimbursement

Application Question(s):
- This role represents hemp-derived cannabinoid products, including intoxicating products, in licensed retail environments. You must be 21 or older. Are you 21+ and comfortable representing this product category?
- Where do you currently live?
- This role is approximately 80% phone-based business development — four days a week of outbound calling and emailing from a home office — and 20% field work, which is one day per week visiting Atlanta retailers. That field day sometimes falls on a Friday or Saturday. This is not primarily a field or brand ambassador role. Are you comfortable with that split?
- In your most recent sales role, how many qualified opportunities or meetings did you personally generate through your own outbound effort in a typical month? (Count only ones you sourced yourself — not leads assigned to you, and not inbound.)
- Walk through one specific account you opened cold — from first contact to first purchase order or signed deal. How did you find them, how many touches did it take, who was the actual decision-maker, and what almost killed it?
- In this role you source and qualify accounts, then hand them to a Market Manager who owns the relationship and the close. Describe a time you handed off work you had built. How did you make sure it didn't get dropped, and how did you feel about not owning the finish?
- It's Tuesday. You're at home, no one is watching, and you have no meetings on the calendar. Walk through your day roughly hour by hour — and tell us how you'd know at 5pm whether it was a good day or a wasted one.
Experience:
- Cannabis/Hemp: 1 year (Preferred)
- Brand ambassador: 1 year (Required)
