Position Overview
Teton Metal Fabrication is hiring a Welder / Fabricator to join our growing shop team.
Previous professional fabrication experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train someone who has basic welding experience, mechanical ability, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in learning the metal fabrication trade.
This position involves helping fabricate structural and miscellaneous steel components for commercial construction projects. Our work includes structural steel, stairs, handrails, ladders, canopies, gates, bollards, platforms, and custom metal fabrication.
The right candidate will be dependable, willing to learn, able to follow instructions, and interested in developing long-term welding and fabrication skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with the fabrication of structural and miscellaneous steel components
- Measure, mark, cut, drill, fit, tack, grind, and weld steel materials
- Learn to fabricate components from shop drawings and instructions
- Perform GMAW and SMAW welding based on experience and training
- Use grinders, saws, drills, ironworkers, and other shop equipment
- Check measurements and confirm parts are fabricated accurately
- Help organize steel, tools, materials, and completed assemblies
- Prepare fabricated materials for painting, delivery, or installation
- Assist with loading and unloading materials
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all company safety procedures
- Wear required personal protective equipment
- Properly care for company tools and equipment
- Ask questions when drawings or instructions are unclear
- Communicate mistakes, material shortages, and fabrication concerns promptly
- Occasionally assist field crews with installation when needed
Qualifications
- Basic welding knowledge, training, or hands-on experience is preferred
- Welding school, high school welding classes, personal projects, farm work, or similar experience may qualify
- Willingness to learn welding, fitting, fabrication, and blueprint-reading skills
- Ability to accurately use or learn to use a tape measure and basic hand tools
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
- Ability to follow instructions and accept feedback
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently after being trained
- Ability to work well with supervisors and other team members
- Willingness to perform different shop tasks as needed
- Ability to work safely around welding equipment, machinery, sparks, and steel materials
- Willingness to work occasional overtime when project schedules require it
Experience Levels Considered
We are open to applicants with a wide range of experience, including:
- Entry-level applicants
- Recent welding-school graduates
- Applicants with high school welding experience
- Applicants with personal, agricultural, automotive, or hobby welding experience
- Experienced welders and fabricators
- Construction workers interested in learning fabrication
- Mechanically inclined applicants interested in entering the trade
Professional welding experience is not required for the right applicant.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are helpful but not required:
- Previous welding or fabrication employment
- Welding-school education
- Experience using MIG or flux-core welding processes
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately
- Basic blueprint or shop-drawing knowledge
- Structural steel or miscellaneous metals experience
- Experience fabricating stairs, rails, frames, or similar assemblies
- Forklift or overhead lifting-equipment experience
- Current AWS welding certification
Applicants may be asked to complete a basic welding or skills test. The test will be appropriate for the applicant’s stated level of experience.
Training and Advancement
Teton Metal Fabrication is willing to train motivated employees in areas including:
- Welding processes and techniques
- Proper fit-up and part alignment
- Reading shop drawings
- Understanding weld symbols
- Structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication
- Safe equipment operation
- Material identification
- Quality-control procedures
- Production efficiency

Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires:
- Standing and working on concrete for extended periods
- Bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in different positions
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and positioning steel materials
- Working around welding fumes, sparks, grinders, machinery, and shop noise
- Wearing a welding hood, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and other required PPE
