Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and patient-focused PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our urgent care team. This position is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses and injuries in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
The ideal candidate is confident practicing independently, enjoys working collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care with efficiency, professionalism and empathy.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses and minor injuries.
- Perform comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations.
- Order, interpret, and review laboratory tests, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state regulations and clinic protocols.
- Perform common urgent care procedures, including but not limited to: laceration repair, splinting and stabilization, wound care, etc.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, follow-up care, and preventative health.
- Recognize medical emergencies requiring stabilization and transfer to a higher level of care.
- Accurately document patient encounters within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Provide occupational services, physicals, workers' compensation evaluations, and other clinic services as needed.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with current certification from the NCCPA or relevant certifying body.
- Experience working in urgent care settings or emergency medicine environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly preferred.
- Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
- Current BLS certification.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical procedures including suturing, IV insertion, phlebotomy, and sterile technique.
- Knowledge of healthcare laws including HIPAA regulations and DEA guidelines for prescribing medications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to assess patients effectively and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, and individuals with disabilities or complex medical needs such as dialysis or hospice care.
- Familiarity with CPT coding and ICD coding enhances your effectiveness in documentation.
- Experience with occupational medicine and/or workers' compensation cases.
Schedule
- FT, PT, or PRN
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays
- Flexible scheduling
- Monday through Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday 9am-4pm, Sunday (EAST ONLY) 12pm-6pm
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to list and assist patients as necessary (up to 50 pounds with assistance)
- Manual dexterity necessary to perform medical procedures
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
