Job Title:
CORD BLOOD COLLECTION SPECIALIST (Phlebotomy)
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Performs umbilical cord blood and maternal peripheral blood sample collections using aseptic technique
- Participates in the validation of StemCyte policies and procedures
- Participates in the investigation of variances concerning procedures and policies.
- Obtains maternal health history and family genetic history to assure donor and transplant recipient safety. Always review donor medical history forms for clerical errors before sending umbilical cord blood and forms back to processing laboratory
- Obtains informed consent and other donor screening documentation
- Demonstrates a complete understanding of these policies and procedures through successful completion of initial training, 6-month competency, and annual competency assessment program
- Follows proper GMP standards at all times
- Assists to educate / train medical staff and promote awareness about cord blood banking
- Assists patients who are interested in family banking
- Performs equipment and product performance including daily temperature in accordance with defined policies and procedures. Reports variances and corrective actions to the Collections Manager or designee
- Maintains quality assurance records in accordance with defined policies and procedures
Position Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Bilingual: English / Spanish required.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
Certified phlebotomist with current license, and current CPR certified.
Valid driver license with a good driving record
Six months to one-year related experience and/or training in medical field.
