Responsible for operating and monitoring furnaces, preparing elemental raw materials, and ensuring the molten metal achieves the exact chemical composition required for high-quality production.
Core Responsibilities
- Material Preparation: Accurately weigh, calculate, and organize raw elemental metals and revert scrap for melting campaigns.
- Furnace Operations: Operate, monitor, and adjust melting or holding furnaces (such as induction or gas-fired furnaces) to control temperatures and melting cycles.]
- Alloy Composition: Add specific alloying elements to the molten bath and take samples for chemical/spectrometer analysis to ensure compliance with product specifications.
- Pouring & Casting: Transfer liquid metal, operate ladle mechanisms, and pour the molten alloy into flasks, molds, or continuous casting machines.
- Safety & Maintenance: Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), adhere strictly to safety protocols around extreme heat, and perform equipment maintenance like relining or rebricking crucibles.
- Documentation: Log material usage, monitor logs, and record data for quality control purposes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED. Technical or trade school training is often preferred.
- Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly, withstand extreme heat, and stand or walk for long shifts.
- Math & Measuring Skills: Ability to perform unit conversions, calculate material weights, and understand temperature ranges.
- Foundry experience preferred
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
