Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the RAI Department, its programs and activities.
Develop, maintain, and update written policies, procedures, manuals, objectives, and philosophies as required.
Gather and analyze data relevant to resident condition, using visual assessment, documented notes, and verbal reports.
Complete MDS reports in a timely manner according to federal, state, or local standard.
Identify and document changes in resident status that necessitate new assessments, using nurse’s notes in individual resident charts and other relevant sources.
Problem solve with administrative and charge nursing staff for best outcomes on resident care issues, including changes in physical, mental, or social abilities or conditions.
Make oral and written recommendations regarding revisions to policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure highest quality resident care and comfort
Actively participate in on-going Quality Assurance meetings, care planning sessions, departmental and administrative meetings, state survey processes, and facility events and activities as needed or requested.
Complete Risk Assessments on residents.
Review referrals from hospitals other facilities for tentative admissions.
Care plan as needed on individual resident charts.
Electronically or by other means transmit data to authorized agencies, monitoring to ensure compliance regarding timeliness, completion, and accuracy of submitted information.
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, disciplining, and terminating RAI Department personnel.
Develop and participate in planning, conducting, and scheduling orientation, training, and in-service educational activities for RAI department personnel.
Conduct regular performance evaluations of all RAI department staff.
Document and coordinate personnel actions with the Human Resources Director and/or Administrator.
Schedule department work hours, including vacation and holiday schedules, work assignments, etc. to ensure adequate staffing of the department and to expedite completion of assigned tasks.
Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to RAI Department personnel as deemed necessary to perform assigned duties.
Ensure that all RAI Department employees have valid and current licenses and are performing duties in accordance with acceptable standards, regulations, and established policies and procedures.
Attend and participate in continuing education programs as identified or required in order to maintain professional competence and comply with federal, state, local, or facility policies and regulations.
Encourage RAI Department personnel to attend and participate in leadership and outside training programs and ensure that all RAI Department personnel attend and participate in all required training programs.
Forecast the needs of the department, assist in preparing and planning the department’s budget for equipment, supplies, and labor, and submit recommendations to the Administrator.
Make reports and recommendations to the Administrator concerning the operations of the department.
Maintain resident confidentiality and treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules and ensure that all RAI Department personnel know and comply with these rules.
