Position: Program Mentor
Department: Out of School Programs
FLSA Status: Part-Time 15 hours per week (Non-Exempt)
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Reports To: Program Coordinator
Salary Range: $13.50-$15.50 per hour
Please note - this is a grant-funded, non-contract, Seasonal Part-Time position. Continuation of employment in this capacity is strictly contingent upon satisfactory performance and continuation of grant funding.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Work with the On-Site Coordinator and Program Manager to create a high quality experience for every student who participates in the summer camp program, ensuring their safety & well-being . Each mentor will serve as an active and supportive member of the cradle to career continuum of programming. Program Mentors must demonstrate a positive demeanor and empower mentee’s to develop their own strengths and skill sets.
Job Expectations:
- At least one year's experience working with youth preferred
- Preference given to students desiring to work in education / teaching children
- CPR and First Aid Certified
- Positive attitude; takes responsibility for their actions
- Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
- Genuine interest in character development of youth.
- Able to be physically active for extended periods of time
Program Mentor will assist staff in the following:
- Provide a structured and safe environment which stresses responsible behavior, respect for others, and positive attitudes for all students.
- Provide opportunities which encourage social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth.
- Provide quality out of school academic and enrichment activities.
- Be a caring staff member who will interact with the students in small group and individual situations.
- Provide communication with parents regarding their children’s successesand improvements.
- Monitor groups of 10-15 students in an enrichment setting
- Manage students’ behaviors
- Assess student progress and submit data to site coordinator when applicable
- Assist with family and community engagement events
