Deck Hand – Marine Construction
The Deck Hand is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient operation of marine construction vessels, barges, and support equipment. Duties include handling lines and rigging, loading and unloading materials, maintaining a clean and organized deck, assisting crane operators and equipment operators, and supporting diving, dredging, pile driving, and marine construction activities.
The Deck Hand performs routine vessel maintenance, inspects equipment, assists with mooring operations, and helps ensure compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements. This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment, water, and construction operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with vessel and barge operations during marine construction projects.
- Handle ropes, cables, rigging, anchors, and mooring lines.
- Load, unload, and secure tools, materials, and equipment.
- Assist crane operators, equipment operators, and dive teams as directed.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, painting, and repairs on vessels and equipment.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow all safety procedures.
- Operate small tools and equipment as required.
- Assist with mobilization and demobilization of construction equipment and barges.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
- Comfortable working on and around water.
- Basic knowledge of marine construction operations preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- TWIC card preferred or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to board and move safely around vessels, barges, and marine structures.
This position is vital to the successful completion of marine construction projects and requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and productivity.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
