Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments.
- Conduct laboratory tests, prepare samples, and interpret results to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage pet care routines including feeding, grooming, administering medications, and monitoring vital signs to ensure optimal animal health.
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient files, and document procedures accurately in compliance with clinic protocols.
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with cleaning, polishing, and applying treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures are followed at all times.
- Handle of cats and dogs with professionalism and compassion.
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks such as cleaning kennels and ensuring a clean environment conducive to recovery.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with veterinary terminology, critical care techniques, and advancements in animal physiology.
Skills
- Proven kennel experience demonstrating knowledge of animal care routines and facility maintenance.
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology related to animal anatomy, physiology, and medical procedures.
- Laboratory experience including sample collection, processing, and analysis.
- Knowledge of animal catheterization procedures and restraint techniques for various species.
- Familiarity with X-ray operation.
- Excellent animal handling skills combined with a compassionate approach to pet care and owner communication.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail in all tasks performed. The ideal candidate would have at least two years experience and is comfortable with venipuncture, vaccine protocols, placing IV catheters, client education, inducing/monitoring/recovering anesthesia patients, preparing laboratory samples, running in house blood work, proper disinfecting technique, radiology positioning, restraint, and regular animal husbandry. *Pay based on experience.
