We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Sleep Department. The Polysomnographic Technologist will be responsible for preparing patients for sleep studies, performing and monitoring sleep studies, troubleshooting equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and providing a comfortable and safe patient experience.
This is a full-time position with schedules based on patient volume and business needs. Sleep Technologists generally work 10-hour shifts, although schedules may vary.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for diagnostic sleep studies and explain procedures clearly.
- Set up and apply electrodes, sensors, oximeters, and other equipment required for sleep studies.
- Perform polysomnographic studies and ensure high-quality recordings.
- Calibrate polysomnography equipment and ancillary equipment before and during studies.
- Monitor patients throughout sleep studies and recognize technical or patient-related issues.
- Troubleshoot equipment and recording problems to obtain quality tracings.
- Administer pre- and post-study questionnaires and surveys.
- Assist patients before, during, and after testing while maintaining a professional and compassionate approach.
- Safely disconnect and assist patients following completion of their studies.
- Archive and maintain sleep study data accurately in the appropriate systems.
- Perform general maintenance and sterilization of sleep study equipment.
- Respond appropriately and promptly to emergency situations, prioritizing patient safety.
- Maintain compliance with departmental policies, procedures, standards, and applicable regulations.
- Communicate patient, technical, staffing, and operational concerns to the Chief Polysomnographic Technologist and/or Director of Sleep Operations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education programs.
- Maintain required certifications and continuing education in sleep medicine.
- Be available for both night and day studies when needed due to staffing requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Administration.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Post-high school coursework or education in biological sciences or a related field preferred.
- RPSGT certification or equivalent.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Demonstrated competency in polysomnography and sleep study procedures.
- Ability to calibrate and operate polysomnography and oximetry equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues during sleep studies.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Excellent patient care and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions during emergency situations.
- Ability to learn new equipment, technology, and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
Professional Development
The Polysomnographic Technologist is expected to:
- Maintain current RPSGT certification or equivalent.
- Maintain current CPR/BLS certification.
- Participate in continuing education programs.
- Complete an average of 10 CME credits in sleep medicine annually, or 30 CME credits averaged over a three-year period.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities.

As a Registered Sleep Technologist (RPSGT), you will be integral to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Reporting to the Sleep Center Director, your role involves conducting comprehensive sleep studies, performing physical examinations, and interpreting vital signs. Your core knowledge in sleep medicine and anatomy, along with your BLS certification and computer skills, will ensure accurate diagnostic evaluations.
