The LULAC National Educational Service Center (LNESC) in San Diego, CA seeks applications for the position of TRIO Program Tutor/Mentor. Highly energetic individual needed to tutor/mentor program participants. Looking to hire tutors in the following subjects: Math/Science ( Intermediate Algebra 1, 2 or 3, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Chemistry and Physics).
Job Title: TRIO Tutor/Mentor
To: Center Director and TRIO Program Staff Location: San Diego, Ca.
Status: [Part-time / Temporary / As assigned] Background Check: Required Position Summary Under the supervision of the Center Director and TRIO program staff, the Tutor/Mentor provides academic support and mentorship to high school students participating in the TRIO program. The position promotes academic success, college readiness, and personal development among program participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring services to high school students during scheduled sessions at target schools.
- Engage students actively to support learning and completion of assignments.
- Encourage independent learning while offering accessible guidance and assistance.
- Maintain responsible supervision of students at all times.
- Serve in a leadership role when TRIO staff are not present.
- Collaborate effectively with other tutors and program staff.
- Monitor and report student academic progress to LNESC TRIO staff.
- Complete and submit all required documentation related to tutoring sessions.
- Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Qualifications Currently enrolled in college as a sophomore or higher.
- Teaching or tutoring experience preferred. Familiarity with college admission and financial aid processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively and relate to disadvantaged youth.
- Understanding of challenges faced by the program’s target population.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. General proficiency with computers and the internet
. Must successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has personally overcome barriers similar to those experienced by Upward Bound students.
Salary: $20.00/hour
Benefits: Part-time position – No benefits
Tutoring hours ( Monday –Thursday - 2:30-5:00p.m.)
